It is one of the most relaxing hobbies and also the coolest. If the word doesn't ring a bell (which I'm sure it does) the knitting refers to the knitting of a lifetime, only updated with new techniques updated with new techniques, materials and designs.
Besides the fact that you can make beautiful pieces, as you get the hang of it, you will realize how relaxing and entertaining it is. how relaxing and entertaining knitting is knitting.
So if you were thinking of finding something to do something to do during the long winter evenings, something pleasant and, at the same time, practical, I recommend you to try it.
Are you in?
KnittingWhat do I need to get started?
Most of our grandmothers used to do it. Who hasn't worn a sweater or a hat a sweater or a beanie made by them? Surely that is why it has taken so long to recover as the mindfulness and imaginative activity activity that it really is.
Unfairly, it seemed somewhat outdated.
That was until we fell in love with colored yarns. And the beautiful wooden knitting needles in different thicknesses. Thank goodness they are now a trend!
The knitting is quite a (re)discovery. A fun hobby and one that many people use to relax and better manage stress. better handle stressful situations.
If you don't believe me, maybe you don't know Tom Daley, the British trampoline jumper. He went viral at the last Olympics because, while waiting his turn to compete, he was knitting colorful sweaters and jackets which he then uploaded to his Instagram account.
By the way, took home two medals, a gold and a bronze.
To tell you the full story, he donates part of the profits from his creations to an association dedicated to research on brain tumors. research on brain tumors, so good for Tom!
But let's get practical: What you need to get started. Just two things:
- A few balls of wool that you like. My advice is not to go crazy with your first purchase. I know that the world of wool is very attractive, with so many different colors, textures and thicknesses, but for a first attempt go easy and choose thick wool.
- A pair of needles. Again, keep in mind that if you're just starting out, you don't want to complicate your life too much, so a number 10 needle is fine. There are fewer, but you want to keep it simple at first.
The next thing is to choose which type of stitch you are going to start practicing with and find a good tutorial. find a good tutorial. On YouTube there are lots of them, you can take a look at these tutorials from We are knitterswhich are very didactic to start with.
And which one to choose? The one that is always recommended to you at the beginning is the garter stitch or garter stitch. It is very simple and you immediately see the results (which is very encouraging, by the way).
You will probably have to run the image over and over again until you get all the steps right. you get all the steps right. It's normal, it happens to everyone 😉.
Then, when you automate the movements, you go faster and can even knit without having to be knit without having to watch all the time. The fingers go by themselves!
And all that's left for you to do is to use your imagination. You know how many things you can do?
Take a look at this:
Is it the same as knitting and crochet?
Sometimes one or the other technique is used interchangeably, but they are different (and very easy to differentiate). they are distinct (and very easy to differentiate).
For the knitting two wooden needles two wooden needles, of variable thickness depending on the type of work you want. While the crochet is what used to be called "crocheting", because it uses a needle with a small hook at one end. needle topped at one end with a small hook.
The technique is also very different. You can start with the knittingwhich is easier, and then you can try your hand at crocheting. crochet when you have mastered the technique. This way you can evolve by trying new things.
If you've been inspired by this post to launch your own creations of knittingI would love for you to share them. Patterns, ideas, experiments, whatever you feel like!
