I don't know about you, but I already have my summer agenda full of interesting plans full of interesting plans, many of them normal or XL weekends, if I add an extra night.
And although you know that I'm very urban, today I want to tell you why I like so much the rural rural tourism getaways.
Maybe because last year we spent a lot of time between four walls or because we simply like the countryside... we simply like the countryside... Whatever, the point is that this summer rural tourism is sweeping and there are many of us who are making plans to spend a few days small towns with lots of charm.
I'll tell you more, so you can take it into account when making your summer calendar. your summer calendar.
Rural tourism is a trend: are you coming to the countryside?
I'm not the only one saying so (which is also true). It's the data from agencies and observatories that keep an eye on consumer trends. consumer trends.
It is a fact that the pandemic has changed our habits in many ways, and that includes vacations, weekends and leisure time in general: we now like to be outdoors more.
For me, at least, these days I feel like making plans that allow me to see new places get to know new places (that's always!) but at the same time take me to areas where I can breathe fresh air, away from the busy streets and the noise of the city.
Although, I repeat, I like everything and there is an ideal moment for everything. And if not, I remind you how much I enjoyed my strolls admiring the charm of PAIRisian architecture.
Or also, the day that I designed myself a custom-made a great New York plan in Madrid, including a visit to the Thyssen Museum to see the Georgia O`Keefe exhibition.
But this summer I feel like joining the trend and having a little bit of everything, so I'm going to do more rural tourism. so I'm going to do more rural tourism.
And one of the places that will not be missing is the one I will tell you about below.
A proposal? Let's get to know Olvera
You may not know where Olvera is. No problem, I'll tell you: it is a village in Cadiz that has been elected Capital of Rural Tourism 2021 in Spain.
This is chosen by the users of the Escapada Rural website, who vote for the different candidates for decide which is the most charming village.
That does not mean that the rest of the candidates are not beautiful places. In the previous positions have been Daroca (Zaragoza), Yeste (Albacete), Taramundi (Asturias) or Cuacos de Yuste (Cáceres), to name the top five and that you can keep in the drawer a list of places to visit. a list of places to visit.
But the winner is... Olvera, so it has already been assigned one of my one of my weekends for this summer.
I invite you to see the photos. A hill of whitewashed houses, with that characteristic disorder of the constructions that are of the constructions that are born around a castle.
Because that is what is on the top of the hill, presiding over the photo: Olvera's Nasrid castle. And, to one side, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.
The first thing to do is to take a walk. I have been suggested to start at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, to have a point of reference. And, from there, through narrow streets that wind their way up to the top.
Before visiting a place I usually read a little about it, so I can tell you that the town center was declared a historic-artistic site in 1983. It is well worth the trouble to take that short walk uphill to the fortress. uphill hike to the fortress.
Important: choose your outfit outfit for this walk. I have in mind comfortable espadrilles, a cool dress and a hat.
The prize when you get to the top will be the views. We are in the Sierra de Cádiz, so I expect them to be I expect them to be very spectacular.
Besides, it's an olive grove area, so I already know what I'm going to bring from there: a few bottles of EVOO with Protected Designation of Origin Sierra de Cádiz to dress my salads at home.
Did you know that you can sign up to visit an olive mill, a centenary olive grove and finish off with a tasting of premium oils? Don't miss it, because an olive oil tourism experience will round off your weekend.
Do you also feel like spending a weekend in rural tourism?
The truth is that there are many beautiful villages close to home. And it is also a way to get to know new places and promote the local promote the local culture. Can you give me some ideas for more plans?
