Goodbye to Blue Monday: tricks for optimism

Goodbye to Blue Monday: tricks for optimism

Well, the (presumably) saddest day of the year has its place in the calendar: It's Blue Monday and in 2022 it falls on January 17.

That day is when most people around the world are at their saddest. Does it happen to you?

I hope not, but just in case I'm going to leave you here some tips so that this year you can manage it much better.

Why Blue Monday is (supposed to be) the saddest day

Mondays are not the most appreciated days at any time of the year, rightly or wronglyjustly or unjustly. That's because on Sunday night we already start thinking, with a mixture of laziness and resignation, that the weekend is over.

Once again the week begins with all the routines that make us arrive at Friday us to Friday with an infinite desire to disconnect.

No, Mondays are the big calendar rejects. And if that's not enough, it has been decreed which is the darkest of them all: Blue Monday, the (saddest) Monday.

And since it is one of the first to appear on the calendar, the other fifty or fifty-one Mondays that remain (depending on the year) can breathe easy, because from Blue Monday onwards things can only get better. from Blue Monday onwards things can only get better.

And why is this so?

Now I'm getting a little more serious: there is an explanation.

It is true that some people, as soon as the whole Christmas and New Year holiday period is over, feel sadder or more unmotivated, feel sadder or more unmotivated.

And it is also true that at that time the number of diagnoses for depression increases. There is no single reason, but a sum of factors:

  • The return to work is not a time we look forward to, or not usually. For most people, it is a majormajor stress that we have to know how to cope with.
  • The holidays are over and that magical halo that accompanies them. At Christmas time everything seems brighter, there are celebrations and reunions, people spend more than the average of the year... we live, in a way, a parenthesis of unreality. And going back to "business as usual" is hard.
  • The bank account can also be a reason. If you have not controlled your expenses, you are facing a few weeks in which you will have to you will have to take out your card as little as possible to recover your balance.

The point is that that post-holiday slump can be managed, so today I'm going to give you some tips to try to make Blue Monday pass quickly and not leave a mark on your mood.

6 things you can do to make sure Blue Monday doesn't take its toll on you

Goodbye, sadness! Here are a few tips to lift your spirits:

1. Moderate yourself with good resolutions

It's great to start the year with a guide of everything we want to do, because resolutions and goals are important. resolutions and goals are important.

But, beware. Sometimes the slump comes because we've realized that a year has passed and (once again) we haven't done everything we set out to do. we haven't done everything we set out to do.

That is why I try to be I try to be realistic with what I can and can't cover, so as not to put too much pressure on myself.

Another possibility is to make a list of resolutions that you want to achieve, and another one with those that, if you get there, you would like to round off the year. That is a way to keep all your goals in front of you, but without them weighing you down too much.

Meditate, breathe, give thanks.

Maybe what you need is to reconnect with yourself, to take control of your emotions and take control of your emotions and review what are the strengths that will help you face the rest of the year.

Meditating is a good way to make that Blue Monday a positive one. in a positive way. Breathing will help you rebalance, and giving thanks for all the good things in your life will reconcile you a little bit with the world.

Or, at least, maybe you won't see everything so black.

3. Put an attractive plan on the calendar

It is important to have something written down that pulls us (and our spirits) forward.

So, as soon as you can plan a weekend with your girlfriends in a capital city you haven't visited yet, or a getaway with your partner to that nice rural hotel you saw on that trip.

Okay, it's winter and it's almost certainly bad weather. But you can always look for plans indoor.

4. Give yourself a day

As is. For do whatever you want. You feel like reading all day long? Come on, there's nothing stopping you.

Or go to the hairdresser and then get that massage you've been craving.

Or take a road trip anywhere nearby to clear your head and wander around places you don't know about, or get to watching feel-good movies until you you're loaded with good vibes, or... Your day is yours.

5. Exercise

If you exercise regularly, I have nothing to tell you that you don't already know or have experienced more than once. If you don't, then yes, I do, I'll tell you: physical exercise triggers happiness hormones.

And that's just what's needed when we're in low spirits: a dose of dopamine, a dose of serotonin, and a dose of endorphins. And besides, I recommend you to read this post on body positive, that will surely inspire you to get along better with your body.

Sport is one of the most natural and economical antidepressants natural and inexpensive antidepressants (unless you go crazy buying equipment you don't need). Try a nice walk in nature and then tell me about it.

6. Make yourself beautiful

When you look good, you feel better.

Take some time to create a special make-up, try a more daring combination of clothes, renew the color of your hair...

And of course combine your look with some special jewelry that will give the final touch to your look. Have you seen the the Nova necklace? It will surely encourage you to feel like the star you are.

Blue Monday takes its toll on you too? And what do you do? to get it back on track and leave it behind? If you share your tricks you give me ideas for next year ;)
