How are you getting along with your body? Do you accept yourself as you are? Do you smile when you look in the mirror? Unfortunately not all people feel comfortable with themselves and their body. And women touch us fully. Precisely to balance that balance, body positive was born .
Shall I tell you more?
This movement in favor of accepting one's own body has been talked about for some time now . However, not all women apply it yet, perhaps because they do not know it well enough.
That's why today I want to talk to you about body positive and why it seems so important to us.
What is the body positive movement , or positive bodies
If you have heard of body positive, you will surely associate it with images of curvy women who pose happily with their bodies.
That's where the shots go: tired of always seeing photographs of very thin and perfect models according to the standard imposed by fashion, many women rebelled and began to show less normative bodies but just as perfect.
And I don't just mean weight. I also include any features that were once considered a defect and are now displayed with acceptance and pride: cellulite, stretch marks, scars...
Is there something to hide? That's what body positive is all about . Of women who accept themselves and don't beat themselves up because they don't fit the standards imposed by fashion or advertising.
What is body positive ?
It cannot be said that the movement is something new. Self-acceptance is an idea that feminism has handled since the 1960s, but like many other terms, this one also became popular thanks to the internet and social networks.
For me, it's part of a global movement for female empowerment. What has changed in women thanks to this movement? Things like these:
- We don't judge ourselves nor do we want to feel judged.
- We put our self-esteem above other issues.
- We value the inclusive against the exclusivity imposed by the aesthetic industry.
Body positive has meant a huge leap because it makes different bodies visible.
So getting out of the "dark zone" and starting to appear in magazines, catalogs and catwalks was a bombshell at the time. Suddenly, magazines started calling curvy models for their covers.
Today it is more normalized, fortunately, and the trend is the natural look.
Every day more women join and accept their gray hair, their "orange skin", their acne. And beyond, body positive also covers different abilities, race, gender or any other factor that influences how we perceive our body.
Rejecting beauty standards makes us value ourselves as we are and feel better. It's a break to stop fighting to try to fit into an imposed beauty canon.
But I don't think it's all done. Not much less.
I think we still have a long way to go, and that is why today I wanted to write this post.
Start to love yourself (or love yourself even more): be body positive
For me, the starting point is to assume that "normal bodies" do not exist. Admitting it is also admitting that there are other bodies that do not fit into that "normality".
This distinction is very harmful, because it establishes an ideal of what is correct, good or beautiful. What we should all aspire to.
And that is simply not possible.
There are women who naturally wear a size 38 and there are others who will never wear it because their physical constitution is different.
Not better, not worse. Other.
Therefore, pursuing such goals is pointless and only breeds dissatisfaction with one's own body and frustration.
Sweeping away these ideas is the basis of body positive and the beginning of a fuller life, without the stress of having to achieve aesthetic goals that we will never reach.
That doesn't mean we don't take care of ourselves. No way! We still like to pamper ourselves inside and out.
That includes eating healthy (do you want to read what I think about realfooding , or real food?), exercising, buying clothes that make us feel good, putting on makeup when we feel like it…
And, of course, wear the jewelery with which we feel most attractive on all occasions (even underwater! With waterproof jewelery to always wear ).

But not because we pursue an ideal, but for the pleasure of feeling comfortable with ourselves.
Take body positive further: be positive in all aspects of your life
The positive mentality and the inclination to see the good side of things , conditions the way we live.
At least, that's what I believe. I am very convinced that maintaining a positive attitude towards anything that happens to us in life is the factor that makes the difference.
Why am I saying this? Because positivity predisposes the mind to find solutions and helps to see the good even in the worst circumstances.
And now, tell me, are you also akin to the body positive movement ? Do you trust that a positive attitude helps you better cope with day to day? I would love for you to share your ideas. Can you tell me?
