Winter is coming, sign up for knitting

Se acerca el invierno, apúntate al knitting

It is one of the most relaxing hobbies and also the coolest . If the word doesn't ring a bell (which I'm sure it does) knitting refers to the sock of a lifetime, only updated with new techniques, materials and designs.

In addition to the fact that you can make beautiful pieces, as you get the hang of it you will realize how relaxing and entertaining knitting is .

So if you were thinking of finding something to do during the long winter afternoons, something pleasant and, at the same time, practical, I recommend you try it.

Knitting : is it easy? What do I need to start?

Most of our grandmothers did. Who has not worn a sweater or a hat made by them? This is probably why it has taken a long time to recover as the mindfulness and imaginative activity that it really is.

Unfairly, it seemed somewhat dated.

That was the case until we fell in love with colored wool. And of the precious wooden knitting needles of different thicknesses. Good thing they are now a trend!

Knitting is quite a (re)discovery . An entertaining hobby that many people use to relax and better manage states of tension.

If you don't believe me, maybe you don't know Tom Daley, the British trampoline jumper. She went viral at the last Olympic Games because, while waiting her turn to compete, she knitted colored sweaters and jackets that she later uploaded to her Instagram account.

By the way, he took two medals, a gold and a bronze.

For you to know the full story, you have to know that he donates part of the profits he makes from his creations to an association dedicated to research on brain tumors, so good for Tom!

But let's get down to the practical: what you need to get started. Just two things:

  1. Some balls of wool that you like. My advice is not to go crazy on the first purchase. I know that the world of yarns is very attractive, with so many different colors, textures and thicknesses, but for a first try, go easy and choose thick yarns.
  2. A pair of needles Again, keep in mind that if you're starting out you don't want to complicate your life too much, so number 10 needles are fine for you. There is less, but what you want is for it to be easy at first.

The next thing is to choose what type of stitch you are going to start practicing with and find a good tutorial. On YouTube there are tons, you can take a look at these We are knitters tutorials , which are very didactic to start with.

And which one to choose? The one that they always recommend at first is the right stitch or garter stitch. It is very simple and you immediately see results (which is very encouraging, by the way).

Surely you will have to pass the image over and over again until you fix all the steps well. It's normal, it happens to everyone 😉

Then, when you automate the movements, you already go faster and you can even weave without having to watch all the time. The fingers go alone!

And all that remains is for you to use your imagination. Do you know how many things you can do?
